THE ATELIER · FOUNDED 2012 · TORINO, ITALY
What began with a cape
became a way of making.
Marta Scarampi is a designer, a maker, and a seamstress from Torino. This is the atelier she built — and rebuilt — with intention.
THE STORY
Built slowly,
with intention.
Marta Scarampi grew up watching her grandmother sew — a seamstress who made garments for her family with care and without hurry. That slowness never left her. She left Torino to study fashion design at FIT in New York, where she learned to design, pattern, cut and sew: rigour, precision, and how an industry that moves fast can still make things that last.
Then she came home. In 2012 she opened the atelier — the first piece made to measure at a table in Torino. Two years later came the first cape. Fourteen years on, it is still made the same way: by hand, to order, one at a time.
How things are made.
Every Marta Scarampi piece begins with proportion, fabric, and a way of working that values time. Small batches, careful making, and a quieter idea of quality.
INSIDE THE STUDIO
Designed in Torino.
Made with care.
The process begins around a table: sketching, refining, testing silhouette and movement. Fabrics are selected for drape, structure, and how they live over time.
DISCOVER THE COLLECTIONProduced in limited quantities.
We make in small runs, then continue made to order when a size is unavailable.
Chosen for hand, drape, and longevity.
Materials are selected for how they move and how they age, not just how they look at first glance.
Pieces meant to stay in a wardrobe.
We design for repeat wear, repair, and long-term use — not for a single season.
The hands
behind every cape.
Marta
DESIGNER · FOUNDER
FIT graduate. Fourteen years at the cutting table. Marta designs every piece, creates the patterns, and oversees every stage of production. She is the voice behind the Journal and the books — a maker who writes as much as she sews.
“I'm fascinated by people. Seeing how the clothes I design are worn differently from how I imagined always brings me happiness.”
Giulia
HEAD SEAMSTRESS · MARTA SCARAMPI · TEACHER · MILLENNIAL SEAMSTRESSES
Giulia has been sewing alongside Marta for years. She is the technical heart of the atelier — the person who knows every stitch, every seam, every decision between sketch and finished garment. In Millennial Seamstresses, she leads the teaching. In the studio, she makes it real.
“For me, sewing is an art form that combines precision and creativity. I love helping others discover the joy of making.”
We believe clothing should be lived in, kept, repaired, and loved for years — never rushed, never wasted.
Every Marta Scarampi piece begins with intention: designed in Torino, cut in small batches, and made to last beyond seasons.
OUR HOME · 45°N · ITALY
Torino, Italy.
Italy's first capital. Still its centre of innovation and conscious living — the city that gave birth to the slow food movement, and then to slow fashion. Baroque architecture, piazzas lined with covered arcades, a bar culture built on lingering.
Torino doesn't rush. Neither do we.
The atelier is here. The fabric arrives here. The capes leave from here. Every piece carries this address.
Fourteen
years
of making.
A brand built slowly, the same way the capes are built. One decision at a time.
The atelier opens in Torino
Made to measure from day one. The first garments are cut by hand at a table in Torino.
The Rachel Cape — the original
The first named silhouette. Still one of the most recognisable pieces in the collection today.
New York
The brand goes international. Friends, events, a showroom. Marta Scarampi arrives in the US.
Fully direct, fully online
The showroom closes. E-commerce launches. The brand becomes entirely direct-to-customer.
A pause. Space to think.
Time away from the brand. Time to understand what comes next.
Millennial Seamstresses begins
The education chapter opens. Giulia begins teaching. The idea: pass on what cannot be rushed.
The atelier reopens — and expands
Capes, add-ons, workshops, books. The brand becomes what it was always becoming.
MartaThe cape hasn't changed. We have. We wanted to invite you inside the making — to show you the fabric before the form, the sketch before the seam.
